Vacation and Travel

Vacation and Travel

Since it is the season of Spring Break and so many people are on a vacation, I thought the topic of vacations and travel would be appropriate.

It’s interesting to listen to other’s idea of what perfect vacation spot is or what makes a perfect vacation. There the spot itself, how a far is it from home or is it too close? With the rising cost of fuel, gas prices, and airline tickets. Many friends and family have decided on the staycation idea.

This bring me to ask the question-what are your top five best vacation spots/places and why?

My top five are in no special order:

1.      Ireland

I visited Ireland over ten years ago and we barely got to see all that we wanted to in the days we were there. I would go back in a heartbeat. The countryside was as green as the tales tell and the people were amazing. You couldn’t turn around and not see a castle!

2.      Scotland

About five years ago, my husband and I took a cruise that brought us to Inverness and Edinburgh. One day in each place was not enough. I would love to take a driving tour of the Scottish Highlands and go to the Isle of Skye. We did visit the Shetland Islands which were stunning, but I have no desire to go back again.

3.      Norway

Norway is an absolutely gorgeous and incredibly welcoming country. We took a cruise that hugged the lower half of the country. I would love to go back again, but this time to tot the upper half and cross the Arctic Circle.

4.      Las Vegas

Vegas is a fun spot, although I can only take Las Vegas for about four days at the most. It can be sensory overload! The shows are outstanding and there are so many fantastic restaurants. A trip to Red Rock Canyon is a must!

5.      Grand Canyon

The Grand Canyon is spectacular to visit. The sunrise and sunsets are absolutely breath taking. It’s accessible in may ways all depending on what you want to do: hiking, horseback, helicopter, or driving the rim. There’s never a bad view.

There are places I’ve haven’t been able to visit yet and there are those that I would love to go back to again.

My top five are in no special order:

1.      Scotland

I’d love to do a driving tour or maybe one of the trains that stop each night in a different town. Whether visiting the highlands or the lowlands. There is so much to see and do. One day in Edinburgh was definitely not enough!

2.      Sweden

My mom always wanted to go to Sweden, but she never had the chance. It’s where her family is from and her grandmother often told stories about growing up there.

3.      Belgium and Brussels

The grand gardens and plazas, along with the gorgeous architecture has always intrigued me. It also doesn’t hurt that there are delicious chocolate stores everywhere 😊

4.      Italy

I would love to take a month and drive from the northern top to the southern tips of Italy’s boot. To explore the medieval villages, walk the beautiful countryside sounds lovely. Cities are fin for a day or two, but the countryside is where I’d like to travel. It’s one country where I wouldn’t have issues finding safe food to eat!

5.      Greece

I would love to go to Mykonos and Santorini, but also some of the lesser tourist visited islands. The mainland with its rich history and countryside is a place that is on my bucket list too.

What are some of your favorite vacation/travel spots and where would you travel if you could?

Today I leave you with this poem about travel by H. Jackson Brown.

Twenty years from now

You’ll be more disappointed

By the things you didn’t do

Than by the ones you did do.

So, throw away the bowlines.

Sail away from the harbor.

Catch the trade winds in your sails.

Explore.

Dream.

Discover.

Cheers to the storyteller in all of us!
