Lists
Are you a list maker? I am, they help me stay organized and are helpful with my fading memory. It’s been said that people who are list makers are more often organized [for me, not always], methodical, and have a Type A personality. I am most certainly NOT Type A! However, lists can be satisfying when you get to cross items off. It’s a sense of completion and also a sense of accomplishment. If it’s a long list, it can show progress as you tick off items that may not be obviously visible.
Lists can be for serious items in business or the workplace, it could be the never finished To-Do list or Honey Do list, or the list could be a pro/con list made to help figure out a problem. Lists can be helpful when your brain won’t stop thinking at night, so you do a sort of brain dump list to figure out in the morning. Lists can also be funny; made up of quotes, memories, or funny ideas/actions.
My favorite lists are related to travel, like favorite places, future places I want to visit, or even a ‘bucket list’. The lists could be cool people, places, or things that were seen/found on a recent trip or vacation.
As a writer, I keep a list of picture book topics and ideas. I also have a running list of cool and funny names for characters. Recently on a trip to a seaquarium, I kept a list in my phone of various sea creatures that could become characters. I’ve done the same with flowers, especially unique flowers. I’ve kept a list of fun and inspiring quotes for years. I am quite partial to Winnie the Pooh quotes from A.A. Milne and my favorite author, Oscar Wilde.
Today, I give you a list of lists complied from other lists, some not my own. I hope it makes you smile.
List of Lists
1. Make a list of all the tasks not completed yesterday and end it with a smiley face.
2. Do meaningless tasks not on a list.
3. Make a list, look at it, panic because it doesn’t have anything crossed off yet.
4. Go to McDonalds and ask for a Happy Meal with extra happy.
5. Bring a large box of assorted donuts to a police officer or group of police officers.
6. On a sunny day, run around yelling someone is following you, then point to your shadow.
7. Walk through a store calling Marco? See how many people answer with Polo.
8. Paint rocks to be colorful and put funny saying on them, take a walk and leave them in various places along your route.
9. Stand on a corner or hallway with a sign that reads ‘Life’, then hand out lemons to people who walk by you.
10. Run into a store, ask someone “what year is this?” When someone answers, yell “It worked!” Run out cheering hurray.
Cheers to the storyteller in all of us!
